Elaine Maloney
She was born in New Britain, raised in Meriden, attended public schools and graduated from Francis T. Maloney High School. Elaine now lives with her husband, David, in Southington. She has four children; Denise, who lives in Monroe; Karen, who lives in Phoenix, AZ; Eileen, who lives with her husband, Mike, in Southington; and Cliff, who lives with his wife and three children in Cheshire. Elaine also has a granddaughter who lives in New Hampshire.
She worked at Plantsville General Store at its conception in 1974 for a few years, leaving to work in the corporate world. Returning in 1984, she purchased Plantsville General Store in 1985 from the original owner. In 1989, with the help of her husband, they renovated the store, changing the venue to a group shop. She now rents space to other dealers, which gives the shop a wide variety of antiques and collectibles. You can find anything from old baseball cards, antique dolls, estate jewelry (gold and costume), glassware, pottery and antique furniture. People come from all over the country and Europe to shop at Plantsville General Store Antique Center.
Elaine and David will celebrate their 20th anniversary this year.
